Pre-Bridal Beauty 2020: Makeup Tips from a Pro
Your wedding day is the one occasion in your life where you will be constantly photographed.
Most of us have a set beauty routine of sorts - a trusted skincare routine regime followed by various cosmetics that enhance our favourite features. You don't have to change the way you look just because you're getting married.
Your partner is making lifelong commitment to you because you are you! That's not to say that we shouldn't want to look the very best version of ourselves on our wedding day; of course we should and we know the very person to help you become that, the talented Irina Awad from Allure Makeup (and do check out her beautiful Instagram @irina.awad).
Here's some brilliant advice from Irina for your pre-wedding makeup as well as tips for the day.
As a mobile makeup artist, I had the chance to take care of many lovely brides during different seasons, locations, circumstances, while aiming to create the best version of my clients on their big day!
But that’s not all that matters.
The PRE bridal beauty journey – as I like to call it – is also so important. It will help you know yourself better and guide you to achieving results that will make you look and feel good. What do I mean by that? Check out these best beauty hacks you should consider before your big day!
1 | Do your research before booking your makeup artist. Ask for recommendations, look at their professional portfolio but also their personal instagram page and insta stories, for example.
2 | Know your style. This is crucially important, it will save you money and stressful trials. Every bride deserves to look flawless on their wedding day, whether you are enlisting the pros or going for the DIY route.
In order to feel your best version on the wedding day, stay close to your everyday personal style. Do not opt for a total different look which might make you feel strange and not comfortable. Aim for looking like yourself.
3 | Start early with skin prep. Getting regular facials can make such a huge difference. There’s no better makeup than good skin.
Book your trial in advance. If you are going for a pro makeup look, take your time to book your favourite MUA and schedule together a meeting where you can have a trial. Try different looks, textures, know each other better to see if you two are on the same path.
A trial is a pre bridal makeup consultation and strategy session where we discuss every aspect of your wedding concept and look, along with an in-depth skincare analysis and a full customised makeup application.
4 | Opt for waterproof makeup products. In order to make your makeup look last all day, go for long lasting makeup products. Thicker textures (than you normally use on a daily basis), translucent loose setting powder and fixing spray will do the job for you!
5 | Glowy, no shine. A youthful luminous healthy look is every bride’s dream, right? Use soft glowing products only on the key zones of the face (top of the cheeks, inner corner of the eyes and under brow bones). Apply translucent powder on your T zone in order to control shine and get camera ready!
6 | Consider your brows. Schedule an appointment with your aesthetician 2-3 days before your big day. A correct eyebrow shape will create a beautiful frame of your eyes and features. Not to mention that makeup will look so much better and clean on freshly groomed eyebrows.
7 | Do not experiment with eyelash extensions. If you are not used with eyelash extensions, do not try them before your wedding day. It can really make a difference... Whether is good or bad. You do not want to risk it last moment. Also, they’re harder to remove than false lashes.
8 | False lashes are optional, but mascara is a must have. Even if you like a glam or minimalistic look, do not forget this step. Applying mascara can do such a positive impact especially on portraits! It can instantly open the eye look creating a natural lifting effect.
Bonus tip: Use a lash enhancing treatment 3 months prior wedding day in order to grow your lashes naturally.
9 | Bridal makeup key products. As a makeup artist, I get to try all kind of brands and latest makeup products. Then I am choosing only the best for my lovely bride clients. Volume de Chanel Mascara is one of my favourites and I am highly recommending it if you are looking for a product that will really make a difference.
They also have a waterproof version. By Terry Hyaluronic Hydra Powder is also an amazing product which works great for blurring soft lines, hiding pores, setting and mattfying skin.
Last, but not least, the setting spray from Huda Beauty really does the job when it comes to fixing your makeup. It is like a very strong hair spray... But specially designed for face!
10 | Touch-ups makeup kit. Create a small makeup kit with blotting papers, mini powder and lipstick for touch ups! Hide it in your purse or ask your bridesmaids to keep it for you. So useful!
11 | Bright smile! Consider whitening your teeth three weeks before the big day. This step will ensure a camera-ready smile. No need for photography touch-ups after.
12 | Stay hydrated. Makeup is a magical thing but it can only do so much. Therefore drink enough water and take care of your daily meals. A healthy lifestyle will show up on your skin, too.
13 | Do not forget SPF. Protect your skin and opt for a 50 SPF products and apply it after your moisturiser, right before your makeup. La Roche Posay has an amazing SPF spray version which is specially designed to have a matte anti-shine finish.
14 | Natural light. Whether you are applying your makeup or you have your makeup done by a professional, be very specific with the lightning during your makeup application. Ideally you should be sitting facing a large window so you have a great source of natural light.
15 | Have fun! Get enough sleep, relax, enjoy every single step of planning and organising your big day, breathe and... Make the best of it!
